Rooted in Sounds
Lauren and Joy met and taught together at a Primary School in London. Within their 12 years of friendship, they both left the classroom to pursue different interests. Joy’s specialisms are in training and teaching reading and writing skills to teachers, parents, and children. She works with the Ministry of Education in St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda and with teachers and schools in Barbados. Whilst Lauren’s specialism developed from her giftedness within digital literacy coupled with her experience and love of teaching in the Early Years, where she writes books and creates and designs engaging educational content. Both are passionate about education but frustrated that some children, despite being in the education system for years, are still unable to effectively read and write. ‘Rooted in Sounds’ – was created to bridge the gap between language and the components needed for reading and writing. This reading and writing system is for parents/caregivers, and educators equipping them to teach children the skills for reading and writing success. Equitable and Quality Education Our multimodal courses are designed for a range of audiences including parent/carers and educators. Each lesson informs and guides you towards meeting the outcomes of the course. The beginners course is designed for the teaching of children aged 2 – 4 years old, the intermediate course is for those teaching 4 – 6 year olds and the advanced course is for those teaching children aged 6 – 8 years, inclusive of older struggling readers. Inclusive The online course content provides flexible learning opportunities with ease of access to the lessons. The lesson structure caters for a range of learning styles. You are encouraged throughout the course to reflect on your learning journey to embed your practices. We recognise that some parents/caregivers may also struggle with reading and writing, therefore we employ text to speech in all our content, supporting you as you develop the personal skills and competencies to both learn and teach the skills within each course.
