Tracking Time Spent on Subjects with HomeTrail

HomeTrail makes it simple to track time spent on different subjects, helping you stay organized and meet any required hourly learning goals. Whether you're logging daily learning sessions or reviewing overall progress, the system automatically records and calculates total time spent per subject.

How It Works

✅ Log a Session – Each session includes an optional duration field (in minutes), allowing you to record how long a student spent on a particular activity.

✅ Assign a Subject – Link each session to a specific subject, such as Math, Science, or Reading, to categorize learning time effectively.

✅ Automatic Tracking – HomeTrail keeps a running total of time spent per student and per subject, making it easy to monitor progress and ensure learning requirements are met.

Reviewing Progress in Journey

The Progress Report in the Journey section (on the web version) provides a detailed snapshot of your student’s learning time. You can select a date range and see:

📌 Total duration per day – View how much time was logged each day for learning activities.

📌 Time spent per subject – See a breakdown of hours across different subjects, ensuring a well-balanced learning plan.

If you realize you forgot to enter a session, simply add it, but keep in mind that the Progress Report takes a "snapshot" of data at the time it was generated. If changes are made after the report is created, you'll need to re-run it to capture updated information.

Where Recorded Time Appears

When you record a duration, HomeTrail keeps it with that activity throughout your records:

Progress, Grade, and Year-End Reports show the time spent on each included activity in the report and its downloadable formats.
Year-End Reports also show the student’s total learning minutes for the selected school year.
Journey and Portfolio exports include activity time in both the readable HTML file and the JSON data file.

Reports organize activity details by student. If an activity was completed by more than one student, it can appear in each relevant student’s report. Activities without a recorded duration show Not recorded in readable reports and a blank duration in CSV files.
