Editing or Adding Details to a Completed Curriculum or Activity

Adding Session Details to a Checked-Off Custom Curriculum Item

When you check off a Custom Curriculum item in HomeTrail, you’re not just marking it as complete; you can also add session details that make your records more useful for progress tracking and reporting.

This is perfect for families who want their curriculum checkmarks to include meaningful notes like what was covered, how long it took, what book or lesson was used, or how the student did that day.

Why Add Session Details?

Adding details to a completed curriculum item helps you:

  • Document what was actually done (not just that it was done)

  • Track time spent on state requirements or personal goals

  • Attach subjects for better reporting

  • Keep notes for portfolios, evaluations, or end-of-year summaries

  • Record progress for independent learners (especially helpful for teens)

Where This Happens

Session details are added at the moment you check off a curriculum item (or by editing it afterward). In the HomeTrail app, you’ll see a new box that has a picture and the completed activity. Click this to open and edit session details.

How to Add Details When Checking Off an Item

1) Open the Day You’re Logging

Go to your Planner on the web or Custom Curriculum Section on Day Page of the app.

2) Find the Custom Curriculum Item

Find the Custom Curriculum item you completed.

3) Check It Off

Tap/click the item to mark it as complete.

4) Add Session Details

After you check it off, HomeTrail will give you the opportunity to add helpful details such as:

  • Subject — if not already assigned automatically

  • Notes — what you covered, how it went, or reflections

  • Attachments (if available) — photos, worksheets, screenshots, etc.

  • Projects

  • Students

  • Grades — Supporter only

5) Save

Once saved, those session details become part of your records and can show up in reports.

Tips for Better Records

Use short notes consistently
Examples:

  • “Lesson 3 — long division practice”

  • “Read chapters 4–6 + narration”

  • “Therapy session — OT (45 min)”

Log duration whenever possible
Even rough estimates help reporting later.

Attach proof for portfolios
Photos of work, writing samples, or projects can be gold at evaluation time.

Adding session details makes each checkmark more than a checkbox; it turns it into a meaningful record of learning.
