Tracking Student Growth with Progress Reports in HomeTrail

Generate progress, grade, and year-end reports from Home, then open or download them from Records & progress.

Updated September 13, 2026

Generate a report from your family’s recorded learning without leaving Home on the HomeTrail website. Reports are included with HomeTrail Free; Grade report appears when grading is enabled for your family.

Generate a progress or grade report

  1. Open Home and find Records & progress.
  2. In Reports, select Generate report.
  3. Choose Progress report, or Grade report when available.
  4. Choose a Date range. Select Choose dates to enter your own Start date and End date.
  5. Select the Students, Subjects, and Activity types to include. Leave all subjects unchecked to include every subject. Choose at least one student and activity type.
  6. Select Generate report. The dialog closes and your new report appears in the Reports list as In progress.

If you have not added a student yet, add one in Your family rhythm before generating a report.

Generate a year-end report

  1. Select Generate report, then choose Year-end report.
  2. Choose a Student and Grade.
  3. Under Include in the report, select the sections you want, such as attendance, journal entries, Rhythm, or masterpieces.
  4. Select Generate report.

Year-end dates come from attendance recorded for the selected grade, or your school-year dates when there is no attendance for that grade. You do not need to enable grading to create a year-end report.

Open or download a report

The Reports list updates while a report is being generated. When its status is Ready, select Open to read it in a new tab or Download CSV when a download is available.

For reports you generate on demand, the Updates bell also shows when your report is being created, is ready, or could not be created. You can keep using HomeTrail while you wait, then return to Home → Records & progress → Reports to open the finished report. Scheduled reports do not appear in these updates.

Use Search reports, Status, Report type, and Order to find an older report. Starting a new report clears these filters and puts the newest reports first so you can follow its progress. If a report is Failed, you can generate a new one with your choices.

Reports contain your family’s learning records. Review their contents before sharing a report or downloaded file with anyone outside your family.

Keep reports up to date

A report captures a snapshot of the learning recorded when it is generated. Adding or correcting records later does not change an existing report. Generate a new report for the same dates to include those changes.

Each selected student has their own activity details in the report, including the time spent on each activity when you recorded a duration. Activities without a duration are marked Not recorded in the readable report and left blank in a CSV download.

Turn weekly email reports on or off

  1. On Home, find Review & reminders and select Manage here.
  2. Turn Weekly progress report on or off.
  3. Select Save report setting.

The weekly email summarizes attendance and learning recorded that week. This setting is separate from generating a report on demand.
