When a school year ends, move a student up a grade so their new year starts fresh. Graduating never rewrites what you already recorded: earlier sessions and attendance days stay attached to the grade the student was in when you logged them.
Graduate a student on the web
- Open Home.
- In Your Rhythm, select the student you want to move up. Their details open.
- Scroll to Annual action at the bottom of the panel.
- Select Graduate to [next grade].
- Confirm the change.
The same panel holds the student's name, grade, and Attendance criteria, so you can adjust the target for the new year — for example, 180 school days or 1,080 hours of instruction — before or after you graduate them.
Graduate a student in the app
The HomeTrail app works the same way:
- Open Home.
- Tap the student in your rhythm to open their details.
- Tap Graduate to [next grade] under Annual action.
What graduating changes
- The student moves to the next grade in the list, one step at a time. HomeTrail only moves students up.
- Attendance progress on Home counts the days recorded for the student's current grade, so the new grade starts at zero.
- Attendance days, sessions, and nature time you already recorded keep the grade they were logged under. Earlier reports and portfolios still show the year they cover.
- Annual action is hidden once a student reaches the highest grade available.
Backdate a grade change instead
Use Trailhead when the change should have taken effect earlier — for example, you are catching up in November on a change that belongs to August.
- Open Trailhead on the HomeTrail website and find Student Details.
- Change the student's Grade.
- A Graduating to a new grade! notice appears. Set the Effective Date.
- Select Save.
Sessions, attendance, and nature time dated on or after that effective date move to the new grade. Anything earlier stays with the previous grade. If a report or portfolio you already generated covers dates after the effective date, HomeTrail tells you which ones may now show outdated grade information so you can re-run them.
