Student Login: How Your Child Can Sign In to Nest

Kids do not have separate logins, so there is no student login to create. Sign in to the Nest app on your child’s device with your own HomeTrail email and password, and your child picks their name to see their own day. Children check off th...

Plus

Your child sees their day in Nest, the student app that comes with HomeTrail Plus. Kids don't get their own email, password, or login. You sign in once on their tablet or phone with your HomeTrail email and password. Then your child taps their name and sees only their own learning.

Get Nest ready on the website

  1. Open Plus in the menu, then choose the Nest tab.
  2. The first time, read the privacy notice and choose I understand, enable Nest.
  3. Open Trailhead and choose Students. Check that Student App Access is turned on for each child who will use Nest. A child whose switch is off won't show up in Nest.
  4. Back on the Nest tab, choose Set PIN under Parental PIN if you want one. This 4-digit PIN is for you, not your child. Nest asks for it before anyone opens settings, signs out, or follows a link out of the app.

Sign in on your child’s device

  1. On the Nest tab, find Get Nest on your kids' device and choose App Store or Google Play. You can also search for HomeTrail Nest in the app store on the child’s device.
  2. Open Nest and sign in with your HomeTrail email and password. If your account asks for a verification code, enter it as usual.
  3. Hand the device to your child. They choose their name and see today’s activities and learning cards.

Keep your password and PIN to yourself. Your child never needs them.

What your child can do in Nest

  • See today’s planned activities and the learning you made for them, and look at other days.
  • Check off their activities and learning cards when they finish.
  • Answer questions, draw, and add photos of their work.
  • Read Trail Mail from you.

Your child can’t manage their own schedule: they can’t add or move activities, change the plan, or fill in check-ins. You stay in charge of the schedule from the HomeTrail website or parent app.

Disable Nest for a while

To pause Nest for one child, open Trailhead → Students and turn off Student App Access for that child. They can’t open Nest until you turn it back on. Their learning records stay safe either way.

No app? Share one activity in a browser

You can share a single piece of learning without Nest. After you make a material, choose Open on the web or Copy link on your child’s card. The link opens just that one material, with no login. It does not show your child’s whole day. Share it only with the child named on the card.

Common questions

Can each child have their own login or email address? No. Every child uses the family sign-in on the device, then picks their own name.

Where do I find my child’s password? There isn’t one. Sign in with your own HomeTrail email and password.

My child’s name is missing in Nest. Turn on Student App Access for them in Trailhead → Students. Then sign out of Nest and sign back in.

Do I need Plus? Yes. Nest comes with HomeTrail Plus. See Using Nest, the Student App for more about what Nest shows.
