Nest is the student-facing HomeTrail experience for Plus families. Students see only the learning and messages intended for them.
How does a student log in? Can kids have separate logins?
Nest uses your existing HomeTrail family account email and password, not separate child email addresses or student passwords. A parent signs in on the child's device; each enabled student has their own learning space inside Nest. Adding a student profile in the parent HomeTrail app does not sign that child into Nest.
- On the HomeTrail website, open Plus Hub → Nest, enable Nest, and set your Parental PIN. In Trailhead → Student App Access, enable the students who need access.
- Install and open the separate Nest app on the student's device.
- A parent enters the family's HomeTrail email and password in Nest, then opens the appropriate student's learning space. Keep the password and parental PIN with the grown-up.
There is no separate student password to find in the parent HomeTrail app. The parental PIN protects grown-up actions; it is not the login password. If a student is missing, check their Student App Access and the family account used to sign in. Nest requires HomeTrail Plus.
For one material without an app login, a parent can prepare the child's copy on the website and share Open on the web or Copy link. That link opens just that material, not a full student account or planner.
In Nest, students can:
- Open daily learning cards and generated packs
- Read Trail Mail from a parent
- See student-facing planned activities
- Mark cards as viewed, complete, or skipped when supported
- Open interactive activities and printable resources
Turn on Nest access
- Open Plus Hub → Nest.
- Review the child-facing data notice and choose I understand, enable Nest.
- Choose Set Parental PIN. The PIN protects settings, logout, external links, and Grown-up Guides; students do not normally use it to sign in.
- In Trailhead, use Student App Access to choose which students may use Nest.
- Install Nest from the App Store or Google Play, then follow the displayed family sign-in instructions.
Parents control access separately for each student. Turning off access removes that student's ability to enter Nest without deleting the family's HomeTrail records.
Student Skip is not the same as a parent removing a generated card. Use the parent pack controls for available management actions.

How Nest work appears in learning records
Creating or delivering a pack does not count it as completed learning. Journey can show materials placed on a past or current planned day before they are finished, so you can return to the work. Unassigned review drafts and archived cards stay out of that timeline.
Journey exports and Progress, Grade, and Year-End Reports still use completed learning: a generated pack becomes eligible after the student finishes it or a parent marks it complete. A Grade Report also requires a recorded grade. Unopened, unfinished, and skipped packs stay out of those completed-learning records. When a pack is completed, HomeTrail records it on its completion date. In Year-End Report options, use Nest Packs to include or exclude completed packs.
Masterpieces saved from Nest are completed learning records and can also appear in Journey and reports.
Open one material in a browser
In Review & finish, choose the children and day, then select Prepare their copies. This creates each child's copy without adding it to the HomeTrail plan or Nest Student App. On the child's card, choose Open on the web or Copy link to use that material without installing Nest or logging in. Supported materials include response controls, drawing, or completion actions. This opens the selected material, not the student's full Nest home screen.
Anyone with the link can open that material and use its available controls. Share it only with the child named on the card. Each child has separate answers and completion, even though the material is the same. Links expire; reopen the material from HomeTrail to recover the prepared child copies and get current links if needed.
Choose Add to plan on a child's card when you want it on their HomeTrail plan. Send to Nest adds it to both their plan and Nest. Worksheets and other printable materials can be printed without selecting a child. Web links and printed audio or video QR cards require a prepared child copy.
