Adding Details to a Completed Custom Curriculum Session

Updated January 19, 2026

When you complete (check off) a Custom Curriculum item in HomeTrail, you can also add session details to document what was actually done. This helps turn a simple “completed” checkmark into a meaningful record for progress tracking, reporting, and portfolios.

Why Add Details to a Completed Curriculum Session?

Adding details is useful if you want to track:

  • What was covered (lesson/page/chapter/topic)

  • How long it took (minutes/hours)

  • Which subject it counted toward

  • Notes about progress (strengths, struggles, wins, next steps)

  • Evidence for portfolios (photos, uploads, or reflections, if available)

This is especially helpful for families who need strong documentation for state compliance, evaluations, or independent learners (like teens).

Add Details While Checking Off a Custom Curriculum Item

On the Website:

  1. Open your Planner and go to the day you’re logging.

  2. Find the custom curriculum item you want and mark it as complete.

  3. Click on the completed custom curriculum activity that shows up separate of the custom curriculum dropdown.

  4. When the details panel appears, add any of the following (as available):

    • Teachers

    • Students

    • Projects

    • Duration (hours and minutes)

    • Subject (especially useful for reporting)

    • Notes (what you did / how it went)

  5. Tap Save.

In the App:

  1. Open the Day Page and scroll down to the custom curriculum module.

  2. Find the custom curriculum item you want and mark it as complete.

  3. Click on the completed custom curriculum activity that shows up separate of the custom curriculum dropdown.

  4. When the details panel appears, add any of the following (as available):

    • Teachers

    • Students

    • Projects

    • Duration (hours and minutes)

    • Subject (especially useful for reporting)

    • Notes (what you did / how it went)

  5. Tap Save.

Once saved, HomeTrail stores those details as part of your learning record.

Tips for Clear, Helpful Records

✅ Keep notes short and specific
Examples:

  • “Lesson 5: fractions intro + worksheet”

  • “Read chapters 2–3, discussed themes”

  • “Writing: rough draft + edit pass”

  • “Music practice: scales + Song A”

✅ Add duration when you can
Even rough estimates help if you track hours for reporting.

✅ Use subjects consistently
This makes subject-based reporting and totals much more accurate.

Where These Details Show Up

Details logged on completed Custom Curriculum sessions can appear in:

  • Student activity/session history

  • Subject and time totals (when subject + duration are included)

  • Progress Reports and Year-End Reports (depending on report type and range)
