Add, Update, and Schedule Rhythm Items

Add or update curriculum, connect it to your family rhythm, choose its schedule, and use it in the Planner.

Updated September 14, 2026

Follow these steps on the HomeTrail website, including in a phone browser. The parent app may have different screens and controls depending on your installed version.

Rhythm connects recurring curriculum and activities to the Planner. Add an item once, choose its students and schedule, then check it off on each day it is completed.

Rhythm is the current name for the feature previously labeled Custom Curriculum.

Use the same steps when you want to update or edit curriculum you already added.

Understand the connection

  • Your Rhythm stores recurring curriculum or activities, their students, and their schedules.
  • Planner shows each Rhythm item on the days when it is available and records it when you mark it complete.

Add a recurring activity from Home

  1. Open Home and find Your family rhythm.
  2. Choose Add to your rhythm.
  3. Optionally choose a broad subject such as Math or Science.
  4. Search for the specific curriculum, class, or routine. Choose one of Your activities or a match under Curriculum & resources.
  5. If it is not listed, choose Add “…” as a new activity.
  6. Add an optional description, including a book, level, goal, location, or meeting address you want to remember.
  7. Choose the days, students, and whether it is ongoing or limited to start and end dates.
  8. Choose Save to my rhythm.

To browse public resources first, choose Discover beside Page in Your family rhythm, then select Add to rhythm on a source that fits.

Rhythm is available on HomeTrail's free plan. Adding a Rhythm item does not publish your family's student assignments or schedule.

Choose when it appears

  • Select weekdays when the item should recur only on those days.
  • Select all seven days when it should be available every day.
  • Add an optional start date when it should begin later.
  • Add an optional end date when it should stop appearing after a certain day.

When students need different schedules, use a student-specific Rhythm item for each schedule. Home groups same-name items and lets you choose the student schedule you want to edit.

Complete curriculum in the Planner

  1. Open Planner → Week.
  2. Find the Rhythm panel on an applicable day. Today's panel opens automatically; other days show a completed count such as 0/3 done until you expand them.
  3. Select an item to mark it complete for that day. Select it again to mark it incomplete.

The Planner shows the curriculum item's name and creates a learning-session record when you mark it complete. That completed record can be used by HomeTrail's progress and reporting tools.

Rhythm availability is different from an explicitly dated Session. The item remains available according to its recurring schedule. To place one lesson at a particular date or time, use Add Activity in the Planner or ask TrailGuide to plan the specific Session.

Edit, archive, or delete an item

  1. Open Home and find Your family rhythm.
  2. Select the recurring activity. If students have different schedules for the same activity, choose the schedule you want to edit.
  3. Update its students, subjects, weekdays, or optional start and end dates, then save it.

Choose Remove from rhythm when the activity should stop appearing. HomeTrail keeps earlier learning records intact.
