Edit or Delete Activities and Fix Duplicate Sessions

Correct an activity, remove a duplicate session safely, and know what to do when details or photos are missing.

Updated August 27, 2026

If an activity appears twice, compare both entries before deleting either one. Keep the entry with the correct student, duration, notes, and photos, then remove only the duplicate.

HomeTrail Plus families can ask TrailGuide by SMS or WhatsApp to delete one specific session. Include the student, activity, and date so TrailGuide can identify the right entry, then review its confirmation summary before approving the deletion. For example: “Delete Avery's duplicate reading session from yesterday.”

Edit or delete a session on the website

  1. Open Planner and choose Week or Month.
  2. Open the session you want to change.
  3. Update its activity, students, subjects, duration, notes, or uploads, then select Save Changes.
  4. To remove it instead, select Delete and confirm the deletion.

After you delete a session, the Planner refreshes in place and keeps you near the date you were viewing.

Edit or delete a session in the app

  1. Open Planner and select the session.
  2. Update its activity, photos, student, teacher, duration, or other details and save it.
  3. To remove the session, use the delete option and confirm it.

Remove a duplicate safely

  1. Open the first copy and review its students, duration, notes, and photos.
  2. Open the second copy and compare the same details.
  3. Keep the more complete entry.
  4. Delete only the duplicate.

Deleting a session also removes uploads attached to that session. Do not delete both copies when only one contains the photos or notes you want to keep. Editing is safer than deleting when a session contains part of the record you need.

If details or photos are missing

  1. Refresh the Planner and reopen the session once to rule out a stale screen.
  2. Check the other copy before deleting anything; the missing details may be attached there.
  3. If an upload was still in progress in the app, keep the app open with a stable connection and check the session again.
  4. If the activity name, notes, or photos still do not appear, use Contact support in the Help Center and describe the date, approximate time, and which copy should be kept.

Do not include a child's full name or other sensitive details in the support description. HomeTrail support can use the session timing and your signed-in account to investigate.

Edit or delete an activity definition

On the website, open Pathfinder → Activities to manage an activity your family created. This changes the reusable activity itself, while editing a session changes one planned or completed occurrence in the Planner.

If the activity is used by Rhythm

HomeTrail keeps an activity when a Rhythm item still uses it. This prevents a recurring item from continuing to appear on the applicable Days without its activity details.

If HomeTrail tells you the activity is used by Rhythm:

  1. Open Home and find Your Rhythm.
  2. Select the matching recurring item. When students have separate schedules for the same activity, choose the specific student’s item.
  3. Choose Remove from rhythm when you want it to stop appearing on future Days. HomeTrail archives the Rhythm item and preserves its completed learning history.

An archived Rhythm item still keeps its activity connection so earlier records remain complete. Keep the reusable activity when you archive its Rhythm item. To permanently delete the activity, every linked Rhythm item must first be permanently deleted; only unused Rhythm items without completed Sessions should be deleted.
