Add or Update a Student in HomeTrail

Add a student or update their profile, attendance rule, learning context, and grade from Home.

Updated September 4, 2026

You can add or update a student without leaving Home.

Add a student from Home

  1. Open Home and find the student list in Your Rhythm.
  2. Choose Add student. On a phone, choose the dashed Add circle in the student row.
  3. Enter the student's First name or nickname.
  4. Choose the Grade they would be in at school.
  5. Review Attendance criteria, then choose Add student.

The new student is added to your family and selected in Your Rhythm right away. Adding students is included with free HomeTrail accounts.

Update a student's information

  1. Open Home and find the student list in Your family rhythm.
  2. Select the student.
  3. Update their First name or nickname, Attendance criteria, Loves, Working on, or Notes.
  4. Choose Save student.

HomeTrail uses the attendance criteria when it shows attendance progress and builds reports. Loves, Working on, and Notes give HomeTrail useful context when it plans or tailors learning for that student.

Change a student's grade

  1. Open the student from Your family rhythm.
  2. Choose the new Grade.
  3. Select Update grade and confirm the change.

Changing grade changes the current-grade attendance and report views. Earlier attendance and learning records remain saved under the grade where they were recorded. You can continue editing the rest of the student's profile after the grade change is confirmed.

Starting another school year? Update the family's dates separately in Home → Your family rhythm → School year. See Start a New School Year or Change a Student's Grade for grade changes, keeping earlier records, and reviewing last year.

HomeTrail keeps each student's profile and learning records separate within your family account. Only people with access to your family can manage its students.
