TrailGuide is HomeTrail’s AI-powered homeschool assistant. It allows you to manage your homeschool using simple text messages instead of navigating menus or entering data manually.
You can send messages to log what your child did, mark attendance, ask questions about progress, or generate reports. TrailGuide reads your message, understands what you are asking, and takes the appropriate action inside HomeTrail.
TrailGuide connects your messages directly to your records. For example, if you send:
"Emma did math for 30 minutes"
TrailGuide will log a completed session with the correct details. If you ask:
"How is Emma doing this week?"
TrailGuide will return a summary of sessions and attendance.
You can also include multiple requests in one message. If you write, "Mark Emma present and log 30 minutes of math for Jake," both actions will be completed. TrailGuide also remembers recent context, so follow-up messages like "Add science too" will apply to the same student and timeframe.
To use TrailGuide:
Go to Supporter Hub → TrailGuide tab
Enter your phone number
Confirm SMS consent
Confirm AI consent
Activate TrailGuide
After setup, you will receive a welcome text. You can then begin sending messages right away.
If you did not receive a welcome text, refer to the Troubleshooting section of this article.
Profile Notes help TrailGuide understand how your homeschool works. These notes give helpful context so responses and suggestions feel more relevant.
You can add notes that apply to your whole family or notes that apply to a specific student.
For example, you might note that you homeschool four days a week or that one parent teaches math on certain days. You can also include student-specific details such as learning preferences or areas that need extra support.
TrailGuide is designed with privacy in mind. Student names are never sent to the AI system. They are replaced with temporary aliases during processing and restored before you receive a response.
You can view exactly what information TrailGuide uses in the What TrailGuide Knows section. Conversations are only used to complete your request and are not used to train AI models. You can turn TrailGuide off at any time through your settings.
TrailGuide can log sessions, plan upcoming activities, mark attendance, and generate reports. It can also suggest activities, search for resources, and show your schedule.
You do not need to learn special commands. You can simply describe what you want in plain language, and TrailGuide will handle the rest. Think of talking to TrailGuide as you would another person.
If you need help while using TrailGuide through text, you can reply with "Support" to receive support instructions. If you want to stop receiving messages, you can reply with STOP.
You can also manage or turn off TrailGuide messaging from the TrailGuide tab in your account.
If you did not receive the initial welcome message from TrailGuide, check the following:
Confirm that your phone number is entered correctly in your account settings.
Check whether the message was filtered into spam or blocked by your carrier.
Ensure that your phone has not blocked unknown numbers.
If the problem continues, contact HomeTrail support for assistance.
TrailGuide simplifies homeschool tracking by turning everyday messages into actions. It reduces manual work, keeps your records organized, and allows you to interact with HomeTrail in a faster and more natural way.
